Count Koopula Episode Guide

Super Mario Bros. Super Show Cartoon Episode 15 – Count Koopula

In a dark forest in Turtlevania, Mario, and his friends runs through rain. Princess Toadstool complains about freezing and wonders if she and her friends will find some shelter. Mario tells her not to worry, saying a motel must be nearby.

In the Chateau Koopula, King Koopa, under the alias Count Koopula, glares through a telescope at the approaching heroes. After cackling to himself, he calls Mouser, under the alias "Mousigor," into the room, telling him to prepare some rooms for the Mario and his friends. Koopula then orders a Tweeter Bat on a pole to lure Mario and his friends to his castle.

Under a tree, Luigi tries to convince Mario to share some of his spaghetti, explaining that he had three orders while he only had one. Though initially hesistant, Mario decides to share after some convincing from the Princess. However, just as he gives him the spaghetti, the Tweeter Bat dives down and snatches the box. As the bat begins fly away, Mario jumps and grabs onto the box of spaghetti, with his friends grabbing onto him shortly afterward. However, Mario loses his grip on the box, allowing the Tweeter Bat to fly back to Chateau Koopula with the box.

Following the Tweeter to the castle, Mario and his friends find themselves in front of a door with a demonic-looking door knocker. Luigi says that he will not enter the castle, as there appears to be vampires. Mario scoffs at Luigi's fear, saying that no one believes in vampires anymore, and rings the doorbell. A robed Mousigor opens the door, and Mario asks him for rooms. Mousigor responds that they can stay in the castle, and instructs them to follow him.

As Mario and his friends walk through a hallway, Luigi notices that the paintings have moving eyes. He alerts Mario and the Princess, but is then is shocked to see the paintings have lost their eyes. Mario scoffs at Luigi's beliefs as the group continues down the hallway.

Further down the hall, Mousigor stops at three doors and shows Mario and his friends to their rooms. As Toad inspects his room, a flustered Mousigor calls Toad by his name, prompting him to become suspicious and attack him, tearing away part of his robe. Shoved away, Toad recognizes him as Mouser, only to see him leave the room and lock the door, trapping him inside.

Trivia & Bloopers

  • When Count Koopula instructs the Tweeter Bat to lure Mario and his friends into his clutches, the heavy rain outside the window is missing.
  • When the group notices Chateau Koopula in the distance, the large arachnid-like legs jutting out from it are missing.
  • When Mario says, "We've got to get that spaghetti back!", his mouth does not move.
  • When Mario explains to Luigi about his spare ravioli he brought with him, his teeth are the same color as his skin for a few frames.
  • The numbered rooms are a reference to the Monty Hall problem, a brain teaser based from the American television game show Let's Make a Deal. Toad later asks, "What's behind door number three?", supporting this analogy.
  • The bottle of tomato sauce that Mario inspects in Count Koopula's cellar is dated as having been made in 1989, the same year The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! was made.
  • In the French, German, Hebrew, Mario's mentioning that there must be a motel somewhere is changed to a hotel. In the Brazilian Portuguese dub, it is instead changed to a hostel. In the Latin American Spanish dub, he instead merely mentions that there must be a place somewhere.

Count Koopula

Magician (Live Action Sketch)

At the dinner table in their apartment, Luigi is reading a letter he received from Harry Blackstone Jr. to Mario, who is holding onto a basketball on the table. Reading his letter, Luigi gets a thanks from Harry Blackstone Jr. for his support of him and a note saying that, if Harry Blackstone Jr. was ever in the neighborhood, he could stop by and say hello.

As an amazed Luigi tells Mario that it would be amazing if Harry Blackstone Jr. did come to Mario Brothers Plumbing, Mario interrupts Luigi, saying that will never happen. After Mario says this though, a blast of smoke suddenly fills the apartment and Harry Blackstone Jr. himself appears before a surprised Mario and Luigi. Running over to Harry Blackstone Jr., Luigi greets him and is asked by Harry Blackstone Jr. if his magic act is doing well. Luigi responds to Harry Blackstone Jr.'s question by saying that his magic act is not going so well, saying he is having trouble making things disappear.

After hearing Luigi say this, Harry Blackstone Jr. tells him to show him his act, saying that maybe he can help Luigi with it. Agreeing to Harry Blackstone Jr.'s proposition of helping him, Luigi asks Mario for his basketball, which Mario throws to Luigi. Placing the basketball on a nearby stand, Luigi places a red cloth over it as Harry Blackstone Jr. watches. After this preparation, Luigi starts to say an incantation that will make the basketball vanish, unfortunately, this chant does nothing and the basketball stays in place.

After Luigi's failed demonstration, Harry Blackstone Jr. tells him that the magic words Luigi used were wrongs and decides to tell Luigi the real magic words to make something disappear. Telling Luigi the magic words, Harry Blackstone Jr. watches as Luigi says them and motions towards the basketball which, after Luigi says the magic words, vanishes, surprising both Luigi and Mario.

Congratulating Luigi in his success with his disappearing act, Harry Blackstone Jr. says that he has to leave for a luncheon with Erik Estrada. Before he teleports away though, Harry Blackstone Jr. tells Luigi to be careful with his magic words, saying that they can cause a lot of trouble if used recklessly. After Harry Blackstone Jr. leaves, Luigi brags to Mario about how he can make things disappear, before apologizing to him about making his basketball vanish. Mario tells Luigi not to worry though, saying his basketball was not actually his, it was Luigi's.
