Mario and friends have to defend themselves and General Washingtoad's army against the Koopas. When King Koopa threatens to attack, Luigi travels by horse to warn everyone ala Paul Revere, shouting "The Koopas are Coming! The Koopas are Coming!", but unfortunately he gets caught in the process.

Mario is being targeted by a tough guy, and seeks help from the legendary spirit Obi-Wan Cannoli.
