Super Mario Bros. Super Show Cartoon Episode 45 – The Provolone Ranger
In Sudden Death Valley, Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and Toad are delivering a trunk stuffed with Gold Coins to the Wild Western Frontier of the Mushroom Kingdom in an Ostro-drawn stagecoach, which Mario is driving. Mario states that the citizens of Mushridge had all their Gold Coins stolen by the outlaw Billy the Koopa, implying that their delivery is to compensate for town's loss. As the stagecoach drives over a bump, several coins fall out of the chest, which Luigi, Princess Toadstool and Toad manage to catch by each sticking an arm out of a window. Luigi tells Mario to take it easy, while Princess Toadstool reminds him that they need to deliver the coins to the people of Mushroom Ridge so that they can afford to buy food. Mario acknowledges Princess Toadstool's statement, claiming that he is driving the stagecoach as fast as he can.
Up ahead, Billy the Koopa and a Koopa Troopa are standing atop an arch-shaped rock formation. The Koopa Troopa alerts Billy the Koopa that the Mario Bros. are coming, and Billy the Koopa vows to stop them. Meanwhile, Mario takes off his cap, and starts to complain about Sudden Death Valley's blazing heat. As the stagecoach drives under the arch, Billy the Koopa and the Koopa Troopa jump aboard. Before Mario can react, the Koopa Troopa knocks Mario off the top of the stagecoach, and he gets dragged underneath it. Mario attempts to hold onto the stagecoach's rear axle, but the bumpy road causes him to lose his grip, leaving him helpless as the Koopas drive off with the stagecoach. Looking out the back window, Toad points out that Mario is gone, and Luigi questions as to who is driving the stagecoach. Billy the Koopa bends down and speaks through the window, informing them of his hijacking, as the Koopa Troopa announces that their next stop will be the Double Cross Ranch.
Mario attempts to run after the stagecoach but is unable to catch up. Later, he soon finds himself dawdling through Sudden Death Valley, sweating bullets and nearly dehydrated. Gasping for water, a native Mushroom man comes running up to Mario. Mario introduces himself to the native, who introduces himself as Pronto and claims to have the fastest moccasins in the west. Mario asks Pronto where he can get a glass of water, and Pronto informs him that he can tap a nearby cactus for its juice. Mario proceeds to pull out a spigot, which he inserts into the cactus to tap some juice out of it and into a cup, which he then drinks. Feeling energized, Mario tells Pronto that he has to stop Billy the Koopa, but Pronto argues that Mario might need his help in doing so.
Sometime later, Mario emerges from a teepee dressed as a masked cowboy and tells Pronto that Billy the Koopa will never recognize him in his new disguise. Pronto compliments Mario on his disguise and tell him that he needs to learn the ways of the west. For Mario's first test, Mario needs to shoot bottles on fence posts with a revolver, but he misses and hits one of the posts. Mario empties the bullets out of the revolver and instead uses it to fire miniature silver plungers, which he successfully shoots the bottles with, as well as a Billy the Koopa statuette. With his gun-slinging skills mastered, Pronto tries to teach Mario how to use a lasso, but Mario winds up tangling the two of them together. Instead, Mario puts together a plumber's snake, which he succeeds in twirling around. Mario then tries to ride on an Ostro but finds himself booted off. On his second attempt, Mario succeeds due to the fact that he tamed his Ostro with a submarine sandwich. Pronto congratulates Mario on his fast learning, and Mario announces that the "Provolone Ranger" is ready to face Billy the Koopa and free his friends.

- In some shots of Mario driving the coach in the beginning, the Ostros' wings are missing.
- When Pronto introduces himself to Mario, his hair is missing.
- When Mario and Pronto distract some Koopa Troopas, some of the Koopa Troopas' hats are missing.
- In some scenes, the chest of Coins is missing its Coins.
- The coach Mario and his friends ride at the beginning of the episode is the same one they rode in "The Great Gold Coin Rush."
- Despite the writer's bible for the series stating that there would be no guns, Mario wields one in this episode.[10]
- In the French dub, Billy the Koopa's line of welcoming Mario's friends to the Double Cross Ranch is removed.

Goodbye Mr. Fish (Live Action Sketch)
Sitting at the table in Mario Brothers Plumbing, Mario is eating some bread when the doorbell rings. Luigi sarcastically comments to Mario that nothing should disturb his eating, then climbs up to the door to open it. Standing on the other side is their elderly friend Mrs. Periwinkle, whom Luigi welcomes into the apartment. Mrs. Periwinkle is holding a fishbowl containing Kenneth, her goldfish. Mrs. Periwinkle asks Luigi if he can look after Kenneth for a few hours, but Luigi remarks that he does not know much about fish.
Leading Mrs. Periwinkle down the stairs, Luigi suggests to her that if she loves Kenneth so much, that she should just take him with her. Mrs. Periwinkle points out that she is going horseback riding, which she then claims Kenneth has a mortal fear of. Arriving at the table, Mrs. Periwinkle asks Mario if he would be willing to look after Kenneth, which he agrees to without any real thought. Mrs. Periwinkle tells Mario that Kenneth is like the son she never had to her, except for the fact that he has gills and a tail, signifying his importance. Mrs. Periwinkle says goodbye to Kenneth, tells Mario to deny him if he asks for a piggyback ride, and leaves.
Luigi asks Mario why he agreed to look after Kenneth, and Mario responds that he did so because Mrs. Periwinkle wanted him to. Luigi then asks Mario if he would jump off the Brooklyn Bridge if Mrs. Periwinkle asked him to, and Mario points out that he could just wear his nose plugs. As Luigi walks off, Mario starts talking to Kenneth, telling him that he cannot have a piggyback ride. Getting the idea that Kenneth is hungry, he nearly feeds him a meatball, but Luigi interferes and warns Mario that he should not. Mario states that it would be easier to digest than a sausage, and drops the meatball into Kenneth's bowl.
Later, Mario and Luigi are staring into Kenneth's bowl, looking at the now-deceased fish floating in the water. Mario asks Luigi what he should say to Mrs. Periwinkle, but Luigi tells Mario to forget about her and asks what he should do about fish. Mario asks Luigi a second time, and Luigi suggests that he should tell her he warned Kenneth not to float on his back. Picking up Kenneth, Mario asks how he should tell Mrs. Periwinkle that she is no longer the owner of a goldfish, but instead a gold ball, and drops Kenneth.
Luigi then comes up with an idea: replacing Kenneth with a stand-in goldfish. Mario decides that they should turn to the Ratagator for help, and walk over to a grating. As Mario opens the grating, he asks the Ratagator if he has seen any goldfish in the sewer, and the Ratagator sticks his head out holding a large trout in his jaws. As Mario grabs the trout, Luigi remarks that it is not even human, and Mario states that he is doomed. The Ratagator growls at Mario's rejection of the trout, and Mario tells him he was aware that it was short notice. As Luigi and Mario ponder on the fact that they do not know what to do, the doorbell rings, and Mrs. Periwinkle announces her return from behind the door. Mario and Luigi start to panic, and Mario hides under the table while Luigi tosses the trout back to the Ratigator, telling him to get rid of it.
