The Retro Mario Media Quiz

Long before streaming, Mario fans got their fix from TV cartoons, VHS tapes and a stack of well-thumbed magazines. Between 1989 and 1991 DiC made three Mario cartoons, starting with The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, and in 1992 Nintendo Power ran Super Mario Adventures, a twelve-part comic, across its pages.

SLB’s archive keeps all of that alive: episode guides for the three cartoons, every chapter of Super Mario Adventures, dozens of Nintendo Power articles and scans from other 90s and early-2000s magazines. This quiz is built from that archive. Expect questions about live-action plumbers, cave people, comic artists and the earliest issues of Nintendo Power. Every answer links back to the right corner of the archive, so you can settle in for a nostalgic read afterwards.
